In recent decades the biggest controversial aspect of the professional sport of baseball has become which players have used steroids in developing their physique and skill. The days of controversial lifestyle choices like heavy drinking and gambling have given way to illegal injections and pills that bulk up bodies but are argued to give unfair advantages, not to mention the potential health risks involved. These days everyone is asking who has ingested steroids. The officials are asking it as well as the fans and it is a hotter question than who is sleeping with whom and who is getting into legal trouble.

In fact, legal trouble and relationship issues are just considered to be par for the course today. It’s much more concerning who is using steroids and perhaps this is for an important reason. Steroids are believed to have an actual affect on the game, while life style choices circumstances have more of a potential or peripheral affect and are not believed to directly contribute to the benefit of certain players over others. In fact, previous controversies tended to have a negative affect on a player’s game and or career, while steroids are credited with enhancing one’s performance. So, the question remains, who is using or has used steroids?

Well, before answering, or attempting to answer that question, another one should be presented, which is does the player have to know that they are using steroids to be punished for it? This is actually more important and a real question than it may sound. Part of the accusation controversy is not only are they using, but do they know that they are? Certain players, such as Barry Bonds to use an extremely famous example, have been given creams for various elements. Bonds’ cream was for his elbow and was potentially an arthritis treatment. However, the cream itself contains steroids and therefore any player can end up using them and not be aware of it. Armando Rios is another player who is allegedly affected by the steroid cream. Other players who have admitted purposely using steroids include Jeremy Giambi, while some players have been accused by others.
