Why is Physical Fitness So Important?
In this age where practically every celebrity has their own exercise program, and health is always on everyone’s lips, if not actually in their minds, there’s a lot of attention to exercise. Websites, tv shows, and health clubs all have ways to suggest how you might find the exercise routine that’s right for you. Although this is certainly a worthy search, you might be wondering just why is physical fitness so important anyway? We all know too well the benefits of looking good, and even though most of these are reserved for people who are not only in shape, but also under 25, there is a lot of appeal in being physically attractive.
There are many good reasons that are perhaps all too obvious about being attractive to others, but this is actually very important for your own sense of self. Self-image can’t be constructed on physical traits alone, and depends on much deeper kinds of beauty, but it certainly helps when you’re not startled by what you see in the mirror first thing in the morning. Physical fitness helps in this, because it demonstrates to you that you actually do have control over your body, and when you don’t like everything you see, you can work on it to improve it. This also feeds right into how you feel.
Physical fitness helps self-image in other ways, too, and the most essential of these are related to the increased sense of well-being that exercise causes. It does increase energy, stamina, and has an enormously positive impact on mood. It’s not simply the benefit of a healthy body, but exercise seems to cause physical changes in the brain that make us more able to process dark days, and see the sunny side of the street. Of course, the most apparent benefit is health, where exercise helps to cut down risks of heart disease, stress, and many other problems. Living a long and healthy life is certainly its own reward, and physical fitness is the path.
